Imagine a middle school classroom where students read 40 books a year, ace standardized tests, and develop a love for books and reading that lasts long after the school year ends. Donalyn Miller, author of The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child, shares the classroom conditions and instructional practices that inspire and motivate children to read and the traditional practices that may inhibit students’ reading. She will also discuss popular books for elementary and middle school teachers.
