Writing is one of the most vulnerable things students do in the classroom. Integrating social emotional learning strategies with writing instruction not only improves student writing, but also creates more resilient learners. Students who write from the head and the heart are more engaged and solidify skills from other content areas.
Join Patty McGee, author of Feedback that Moves Writer’s Forward and Writer’s Workshop Made Simple, to learn how to include social emotional learning during writing instruction and analyze current writing practices in your district.
In this workshop, administrators and leadership teams will:
-
Explore ways to include and refine social emotional learning during writer’s workshop
-
Understand how writing instruction helps solidify learning in all content areas, including phonics and word study
-
Learn how to mentor teachers in creating an environment for writers to thrive
-
Analyze and plan next steps for professional development
